The inaugural Inter Madaris East Africa Science Fair 2005 was held in Dar es Salaam in the picturesque “sahen” of Masjid ul Hakimi. The exhibition featured entries by the secondary school students (girls and boys) of Al Madrassa-Tus-Saifiyah-Tul-Burhaniyah Dar es Salaam, Mombasa and Nairobi.
Twenty entries made it to the final exhibition after winning in the preliminary rounds held in their respective centres. Dar es Salaam had eight entries while Mombasa and Nairobi had six each. The projects were on a broad spectrum of scientific subjects including harnessing of renewable sources of energy, food preservation, baby foods, theory of evolution, practical gadgets, mosquitoes and earth quakes.
The winning entries were selected by a panel of judges headed by the Head of English Dept. University of Dar es Salaam and included another University don and two secondary school science teachers. It took them nearly three hours to adjudicate. The entries were grouped into two main categories namely scientific study and innovative projects.
Finally at 3 pm, with the permission of the chief guest, Janab Aamilsaheb Sheikh Tayabali Sheikh Hamzabhai Patanwalla of Dar es Salaam they announced the winning entries. Janab Aamilsaheb was full of praise and commended highly the performance of MSB students and their achievements.
The winner of scientific study projects was an all girls team from Dar es Salaam whose subject was FOOD PRESERVATION. The other two winners emerged from Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. In the innovative projects category, the winning team was again an all girls team from Nairobi which had a project on SUPER BABY FOODS. The other two winners were from Mombasa and Dar es Salaam. Dar es Salaam emerged an overall winner.
The chief judge was vividly impressed by the talent of our young scientists and their level of confidence. In his address, the English don said our students were more confident than many of his University undergraduates!
Also the large number of girl students taking part was a testimony to the emancipation of women in Islam and equal opportunities accorded to them in our society.
Photographs attached comprise of Janab Aamilsaheb being briefed on principles of wind turbine, students briefing the judges on hydro electric power, Dar es Salaam muraqib admiring one of the projects and the winning entry in scientific study project.
The exhibition was an enormous success, and credit should go to the tireless efforts of the students, teachers, masools and muraqibeens of the participating centres. May Allah grant them yari and tawfiq to reach greater heights towards the goal of par with excellence in accordance with “tawaqqoat” of Aqa Maula (TUS).
May Allah Subhanahu grant our Aqa Maula (TUS) long life with sehat and afiyat till roze Qayamat – Ameen.
